New Nokia Booklet 3G Netbook

Nokia Booklet 3G

Nokia is releasing a laptop computer called the Nokia Booklet 3G. It will be available exclusively at Best Buy and it requires a wireless plan from AT&T. It will be available on October 22, 2009.

The Booklet 3G release will coincide with the release of Microsoft Windows 7 and run that operating system. It will run on an Intel Atom processor and promises 12 hours of battery life. It has a 10.1 inch HD screen and includes an HDMI port for HD video out. It weighs about 1 kg (2.2 lbs) and is approx 2 cm (13/16”) thick. Yes, this computer is less then an inch thick and weighs only 2 lbs! It is incredibly portable and will make a great companion on the road.

The Nokia Booklet 3G also has Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and it’s 3G/HSPA compatible for fast uploads and downloads.

It has a built in camera for video conferencing, onboard GPS with Ovi maps and a built in SD card reader.

Nokia is billing the Booklet 3G as a “mini computer” and not a netbook. They tout that although its form factor is small like a netbook, it will perform more like a standard laptop PC. They are counting on the new Windows 7 to help in this aspect. Microsoft is saying that Windows 7 will perform admirably on computers with the Atom processor. Microsoft’s current operating system, Windows Vista does not perform well. The Booklet 3G will certainly test Microsoft’s claims and push the limits of the Atom processor.

The computer will have a retail price of $599 and be available exclusively at Best Buy through the end of the year (the holiday selling season). If you sign up with AT&T for two years and include a data plan, then you can purchase it for $299. A data plan will start at about $60 per month.

It is nice to see a carrier subsidy on this computer. At a price of $300 this looks like a very hot deal. You get a netbook like computer for a good price with the ability to access the internet from Wi-Fi or the 3G network. Despite Nokia’s claims to the contrary, any computer with an Atom processor should be classified as a netbook. However, hopefully with the addition of Windows 7 it won’t feel like one!

T-Mobile Announces New Nokia 3711 for the Holidays

Nokia3711

T-Mobile has announced the availability of a couple of new phones for the 2009 holiday season. Among them is a simple handset from Nokia. The Nokia 3711 appears to be a basic and standard flip phone. Pricing will be available shortly, but based on its appearance and feature set it appears to be an entry level phone.

The world needs good entry level phones though. Not everyone can afford an Iphone or Blackberry and not everyone needs to carry a mini supercomputer in their pocket!

The Nokia 3711 is a slick looking flip phone that comes in a sable finish.

Features:
1. Unique hidden until lit external display

This is kind of a neat idea. Basically, when you look at the outside of the Nokia 3711 you will not see anything. When you press a button or someone calls, then it will light up and display something. I think that this will look cool, but ultimately people want to be able to glance at there phone and see what time it is without pressing a button or opening the flip. Time will tell how well this feature is received.

2. The phone has built in GPS for use with NokiaMaps.

I am not alone in getting lost all the time, so built in GPS is always welcome.

3. Two megapixel camera with video capture.

This is becoming standard on modern handsets.  The addition of video capture to still pictures is a nice feature.  We will have to wait and see on the quality, but for fun, spur of the moment activities it should do nicely.

4. Stereo Bluetooth

One of the most under untilized features of mobile phones is bluetooth capability.  Adding stereo is a nice touch.

5. The Nokia 3711 is a Series 40 phone.

Nice to see Nokia still producing S40 phones!

6. The phone also can connect to the web with T-Mobile web2go and it supports 3G.

7. It offers email and instant messaging.

This is a given in a modern cell phone, but worth mentioning.

We will have to wait and find out the price before jumping to any conclusions, but overall this is a nice looking phone that will make someone’s holiday a bit more merry!

Nokia 5310 Xpress Music Review

I’ve reviewed a simple phone, a symbian phone and now is the time to review a phone that is well known for two things: It’s light weight and thin shell and it’s great performance at playing music. As it’s name tells you the Nokia 5310 Xpress Music it’s designed for people who want to listen to music on the way to work or for school but don’t want to have two gadgets in their pockets: a phone and an ipod or an mp3 player.

I had this phone and for me was the perfect one untill I had realized I needed a symbian phone for my daily program. Never the less, this phone it’s great for teenagers and active people.

“The company has presented the Nokia 5310 in a way that it seems to be opening the XpressMusic range, even though we all know the Nokia 5700 is also around. In other words, first goes a very conventional candy-bar type form-factor, then the Nokia 5610’s slider design and the Nokia 5710 rounds out the line-up. And in fact this is the first time when Nokia has managed to shape up a complete range of music-heavy handsets, where everyone can find a device to his/her own liking. The only reason the Nokia 5710’s debut got delayed is that they needed to sell off the Nokia 5700 supply, since these two share the form-factor, yet are set apart by a number of aspects like the senior model’s 3,2 Mpix camera unit.”… Read the rest at mobile-review.com

“It seems that Nokia is more determined than ever to get its fair share of the slim phone market. Releasing 5310 right after the 6500 classic comes to prove that producing phones less than 10 mm thick is no problem for the Finns. Moreover, Nokia 5310 seems an attempt at winning the hearts of the music loving masses and, as we see it, might just be the right stuff for that.”… Read the rest at gsmarena.com

“Do you like music? Do you need a cell phone? If so, then you should definitely consider the Nokia 5310 Mobile Phone. This model offers a marriage of the best that the worlds of portable music and wireless communications have to offer.”… Read the rest at conita.com

Nokia E50 Review

This was my third symbian phone, and I honestly can say that it was one of the best phones I have ever used. Why is that? Simply because of the OS, that is Symbian OS 9.1, S60 3rd edition. This OS , as you may know, let you install almost all the things that you have on your desktop PC, because the great number of apps available on the market. The disadvantage of the E50 model is that it only has 32 Mb of RAM, and multitasking is limited. But this is only my opinion, and I am just an ex owner of the phone. Let’s see some professional reviews:

Nokia E50 is another Series 60 Symbian 9.1 smartphone from the famous Finnish manufacturer. It’s the small sizes and ergonomic shape that attract most of the attention. The new quad-band handset has connectivity features like Infrared, Bluetooth, USB, GPRS and EDGE. As it comes at a low price, it will be a phone with many fans. Packed with features in small dimensions, coming at the right price, E50 is surely a bright addition on the GSM phones’ market shelves.”… Read the rest on gsmarena.com

“Nokia E50 was introduced in summer, 2006 as an addition to the enterprise line-up going by the name of Eseries, the announcement itself went without any needless fuss, though, and against all gossips and expectations, the E50 came alone back then without being accompanied by two other Eseries-branded devices, meaning that the company’s tradition to unveil three offerings at a time, like it had done it at Nseries conferences, was broken.

Back then, neither the handset’s design, nor its functionality generated much of a stir – a few can be blown away nowadays with a 1.3 Mpix camera and a 2-inch big QVGA display. Bluntly speaking, there was no “flavor” in this offering, nothing that would have drawn the crowd’s attention.”… Read the rest at mobile-review.com

“The Nokia E50 is the newest addition to the Nokia´s Eseries business device range. It´s a small sized traditional candybar-style quad-band smartphone with features like Infrared, Bluetooth, USB, EDGE and sophisticated e-mail support. You can have this affordable handset with or without the 1.3 megapixel camera.”… Read the rest at about-nokia.com

Nokia 1101

Let’s start with a low-buget phone, that was launched some years ago, but it’s still good for those who only need to make calls and send sms. A friend of mine has this phone for 2 years now and it’s still running without any problems.

“A low-end Nokia 1101 is a slightly renewed version of Nokia 1100. As compared to the previous model, the appearance has undergone no changes, so you won’t notice any difference having put the devices together.”… Read the rest at mobile-review.com
